Know the role of the person providing care
Caregivers and licensed nursing professionals have different responsibilities. The assignment should fit the authorized task, the person’s needs, and the applicable state requirements.

Ask about the role and duties
Understand whether the requested help is personal care, companionship, household support, or a clinical responsibility. A title alone does not authorize every task.
Home-care roles explained

Screening and competency
Ask Eden which screening, orientation, competency checks, credentials, and supervision apply to the role being considered. Requirements differ by state and service. Individual claims about a worker should be supported by current records.
Instructions for the individual arrangement
Discuss the person’s preferences, communication, assistance needs, equipment, approved tasks, and escalation contacts. A worker should not be expected to improvise a procedure outside the agreed role or plan.
When something changes
Contact the agency if the person needs a different level of assistance or if you have a concern about conduct, attendance, communication, or service.
